The Forest Knows

The trees here are old enough to remember things that have no name.

Feather walks through the fog, unhurried. Smoke without fire. Earth that goes down forever. Figs splitting open on the ground, offering themselves to no one in particular.

Something watches from between the trees. She doesn't need to know what. She only needs to be here ... and she is. Fully, in a way she couldn't explain to anyone.

The forest knows. And for a moment, so does she.
